Drug act gets C-grade PDF Print E-mail
TORONTO—One year after Ontario’s provincial government enacted the Transparent Drug System for Patients Act (Bill 102), part of its effort to reform its drug system, a group of patient advocates assembled to review the status of promises made. They gave the government a grade of 65%.

Of the 26 commitments the government made, the group found that only 10 were fully implemented and another seven partially, while eight were not implemented and they could not determine the status of one commitment. They felt that progress was slower than expected and that key transparency commitments, such as disclosure of the rationale for drug decisions, were not kept.

Among others, the assessment group included representatives of the Asthma Society of Canada, the Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance, the Cancer Advocacy Coalition of Canada, and the Centre for ADD/ADHD Advocacy.
